Your Raises Contingent on State Budget?!
AAUP and Rutgers Administration met this morning in full negotiations for a 2-hour session as scheduled by Administration. After Administration arrived 30 minutes late they proposed:
- To continue treating you as second-class citizens by limiting tuition remission to dependents only, rather than the more generous tuition remission provided under the current Rutgers policy.
- The above limited tuition offer is contingent on, by December 31st, acceptance of a final version of the A & P policy that has yet to even be presented to the AAUP.
- Only small merit, and no across-the-board increases, and to make our entire compensation “subject to” state funding. This is the very provision Rutgers used to deny legacy-Rutgers faculty their contractually-negotiated increases, leading to a salary freeze.
The only positive aspect of today’s limited session is that Administration accepted AAUP’s demand to include SHRP faculty in this AAUP contract.
Despite our repeated requests for longer negotiating sessions (which proved effective in reaching a rapid resolution for our members at Rowan), Administration has refused to set full-day sessions. We are scheduled to meet again on December 10th and 15th.

As of July 1, 2013, based on the integration of SOM with Rowan University and the integration of the remaining units of the former UMDNJ with Rutgers University (as per the New
Jersey Medical and Health Sciences Education Restructuring Act as of 2012) AAUP-UMDNJ became AAUP-BHSNJ.
Faculty and Librarians of the former UMDNJ at both Rutgers and Rowan (and those hired into units of the former UMDNJ) are now part of the Biomedical and Health Sciences of New Jersey American Association of University Professors unit, AAUP-BHSNJ.
