AAUP and Rutgers Administration met today for 2 and 1/2 hours of negotiations.
AAUP used today’s session to re-focus discussion on your number one priority, compensation. We discussed increasing salaries, extramural support incentive awards, as well as an incentivized retirement package. Despite Rutgers’ proud announcement of exceeding its $1 billion fundraising goal and offering across-the-board increases to other union and non-union employees, Rutgers continues its resistance at our negotiating table.
Rutgers said today that it is not offering you an across-the-board increase because you are “different.”
The AAUP does believe you are different and told Administration so:
- Our Schools are hemorrhaging faculty
- Faculty in comparable departments at legacy Rutgers are paid more, on average, than our faculty
- Our clinical Faculty make money for the University
- OUR FACULTY HAS NOT RECEIVED AN INCREASE SINCE 2009
We are scheduled to meet again with Administration on February 17 and 23, 2015.
AAUP-BHSNJ Negotiation Team
“ AAUP-BHSNJ is the professional Bargaining Representative for more than 1,400 faculty members and librarians of the BHSNJ.
As of July 1, 2013, based on the integration of SOM with Rowan University and the integration of the remaining units of the former UMDNJ with Rutgers University (as per the New
Jersey Medical and Health Sciences Education Restructuring Act as of 2012) AAUP-UMDNJ became AAUP-BHSNJ.
Faculty and Librarians of the former UMDNJ at both Rutgers and Rowan (and those hired into units of the former UMDNJ) are now part of the Biomedical and Health Sciences of New Jersey American Association of University Professors unit, AAUP-BHSNJ.
