Dear AAUP-BHSNJ Members:
We have had a couple of negotiating sessions since our last communication with you and want to take a moment to let you know where we are. As we have informed you, since our move to a collaborative table, our negotiations have been much more robust and collegial. We have been involved in an engaged process that has provided us with the opportunity to explain what makes us unique. Over the last three weeks, we have made significant developments:
*Agreement on the “Transition to Retirement” as permitted under NJ State Law
*Agreement on Emeritus Status for retired faculty with all of the rights and privileges afforded to “Legacy Rutgers” faculty
*Continued discussion on removing “at-will” contracts, thereby providing additional job security to our faculty
*Continued discussion of the negotiable portions of the A&P Guidelines
*Continued discussions regarding tuition remission for both employees and dependents
*Proposals regarding the Extramural Support Incentive Awards
*Proposals regarding a stronger Grievance Process and discussions surrounding job security
*Discussions regarding “filling the gap” of contributions toward retirement between $141,000 to $265,000.
We have also had discussions regarding SHRP, the Librarians and the Nursing Faculty that will continue as we work through our contract. And, to answer your biggest concern - “Show Us the Money” - I am happy to report to you that the school has acknowledged that they have been your employer since July 1, 2013 and that we are working diligently toward a compensation package that recognizes your work as Rutgers employees. We have three dates scheduled in August and we will update you as we continue to make progress in these negotiations.
In solidarity,
Ilyssa
