AAUP and Rutgers Administration met today in full negotiations for 3 ½ hours.
The AAUP negotiating team told Rutgers, once again, that our members want raises and job security (as well as tuition remission, removal of the pension cap and protection of health benefits). Rutgers continues to delay discussion of these topics. Rutgers focus today was on trying to push through their draft Appointment & Promotions Guidelines, which proposes that:
*Many Faculty (even those not on tenure track) must get promoted or will be terminated
* Removal of the requirement for multi-year contracts for all Faculty on term contracts
*Current faculty can be moved, without their consent, to tracks with different terms/conditions of employment
AND WHAT’S MISSING?
Rutgers continues to refuse to respond to AAUP’s questions about the difference between each of your School’s current A & P guidelines (and legacy UMDNJ policies) and the document they propose as the single A & P Guidelines. However, it does not include sabbatical or an appeal procedure for A & P decisions. And who knows what else is missing?
Also, you may have seen the e-mail from Vivian Fernandez regarding the 2% across-the-board increase for some Rutgers employees. Rutgers has still not offered any across-the-board increase to you, despite AAUP’s demand for raises.
We are scheduled to meet again with Administration on January 29 and February 17 and 23, 2015. We have told the University to be prepared to discuss compensation at our next negotiation session.
Thank You,
AAUP-BHSNJ Negotiation Team
