Dear AAUP-BHSNJ Faculty,
Today, together with our sister union, Rutgers AAUP-AFT, we are excited to announce the launch of our One Faculty contract campaign. This campaign aims to produce one contract for all Rutgers faculty during the upcoming contract negotiations.
Since 2012, when the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) was merged into Rutgers, there have been two unions, we the AAUP-BHSNJ for RBHS faculty and the AAUP-AFT for non-RBHS faculty (aka legacy Rutgers faculty). Each union has negotiated a separate contract. This has meant that the University has dealt with each union separately and extended many benefits to legacy Rutgers faculty but not to RBHS faculty.
By signing the petition at onerutgersfaculty.org, we can merge both contracts so that we are a larger single entity with more bargaining power. Simply put, we are stronger together.
Such enhanced strength will allow us to fight for:
Please keep in mind that while we seek your help in merging the faculty contracts, we are not merging the unions. If the two organizations were to be merged, further discussions would need to take place first. For the purpose of this contract, all the same procedures will apply to ratification (a.k.a approval of a tentative contract by our membership) This means that our dues-paying members will vote for the tentative deal separately and apart from the legacy Rutgers faculty, just as they do now.
In order to make this happen, we need a majority of faculty we represent to sign the petition at onerutgersfaculty.org.
